The Art of the Body: For Children and Adults

Product Description
A striking and unusual boardbook which teaches children their body parts via pieces of contemporary art by acclaimed artists, with short accompanying text that describes each artwork for the adult reader. For example, a graceful wire sculpture by Alexander Calder shows two acrobat artists. The stomach of one of the acrobats, which features a fabulous belly-button, is then extracted and reproduced on the opposite page with the word “Stomach.” Children adore matching the body parts together – as well as the diverse and beautiful artworks. The word “Stomach” is also translated into Spanish, French, German and Japanese. A few sentences are given for the adult reader that describe Calder’s work. Twelve body parts are featured, as listed below. They represent pieces by the masters of contemporary art to emerging leaders; women and men; people of many backgrounds.

Mouth – one of the classic “girl” painting by Roy Lichtenstein

Eye – an amusing, but always telling, work by Barbara Kruger

Nose – a fun photograph of his dogs by William Wegman

Ear – a striking self-portrait by Frida Kahlo

Hair – a intriguing photograph by Cindy Sherman

Arm – a beautiful, gentle work by Carrie Mae Weems

Hand – an amusing sculpture of three boys by Red Grooms

Leg – a fabulous sculpture using televisions by Nam June Paik

Foot – an amazing sculpture of a girl by Duane Hanson

Stomach – an outstanding wire work by Alexander Calder

Back – a rich beach-scene photograph by Max Yavno

Buttocks – a bright, California pool painting by David Hockney The artworks are beautifully reproduced in full-color. The book is designed for little and big hands with 5″ x 6″ dimensions.

Computer Graphics for Artists II: Environments and Characters

Product Description

In this second volume of Computer Graphics for Artists the author, Andrew Paquette, guides the reader through the creation of realistic computer-generated backgrounds and characters. Rather than teach using a specific program, the author focuses on the theory required to ensure that the artist can create a convincing landscape, building, person or whatever they turn their attention to. Part One covers the core areas of background generation, such as CG terrain, plant life and architecture, but also deals with specific concepts such as photo-texturing and lighting, explaining all the advantages and pitfalls involved. Part Two introduces the reader to the study of the body-shape and movement and their consequent effects upon successful digital-recreation, as well as addressing some of the fundamental elements of appearance; hair, skin and fat. It is assumed that readers will be familiar with the terms and concepts described in the first volume of this work.

Drawing Cutting Edge Anatomy: The Ultimate Reference for Comic Book Artists

  • ISBN13: 9780823023981
  • Condition: NEW
  • Notes: Brand New from Publisher. No Remainder Mark.

Product Description
The follow-up title to the hit title Drawing Cutting Edge Comics, which has been translated into seven languages, this drawing tutorial shows artists how to draw the exaggerated musculature of super-sized figures in action poses. The guesswork is taken out of figuring out which muscles show through to the surface and how muscles appear through clothing. This instructional manual even gives both the Latin and the common terms for particular body parts such as scapula/shoulder blade. Hart covers all aspects of extreme anatomy. The book opens by providing detailed diagrams of all of the various muscle groups, including chest, back, shoulder, arm, and leg muscles. Then he covers many of the various extreme comic book types including good guy, bad guy, insane guy, punk, genius, and brute for men; and the heroine, bad gal, trashy gal, seductress, fighter babe, and cyber chick for women. As an added bonus, this book closes with two invaluable sections to all aspiring comic book artists. One provides a roadmap of all the steps an artist must take if he or she is going to get started in the comic book business, and advice on how the comic book business works. The second section features interviews with people from two of the most significant companies in the world of comics, Marvel Comics and Dark Horse Comics.
